Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome/Office volunteers work inside the Westside QRC office at the Hillsboro Downtown Hive. You will be available to help folks who come inside looking for resources. Share out information as needed (if someone walks in and wants to become a volunteer, pass along their info).
Expectations:
Provide a welcoming and safe space for folks to walk into. Help people discover resources they may need. Talk about current happenings at the WQRC, offer snacks, crafts, talk about the lending library, do a coloring page.
On Call:
On call office volunteers do not have set, regularly scheduled shifts. They fill in for absent call-outs.
Physical Requirements:
Much of this role is sitting in a comfy couch or chair in the WQRC office.
Event volunteers help set up, tear down, and table events in the community. Many of these events are outdoors in the summer, so be prepared with hydration and sun protection.
Expectations:
Help set up tents and tables, place swag or other items on the table, be welcoming and friendly, engage in conversation with folks who stop by the booth. Talk about current happenings at the WQRC, hand out flyers, stickers, or other swag.
Physical Requirements:
You will need to be able to lift 20-30lbs, set up a tent, table, and chairs. You may need to carry the table/tent/chairs from a parked vehicle to the location.
Shute Park Tabling volunteers work inside the Shute Park Library at 775 SE 10th Ave in Hillsboro. You will be available to engage with library guests as they approach our table to learn more about WQRC and the community resources we offer.
Expectations:
Provide a welcoming and safe space for folks at Shute Park Library. Help people discover resources they may need. Talk about current happenings at the WQRC and invite guests to attend, offer pride stickers and pronoun pins, talk about the lending library, and let others know how they can get involved.
Physical Requirements:
You will need to be able to lift 10-15lbs. You may need to carry the tabling box from a parked vehicle to the Library.
Programming volunteers host one-time or recurring events (programs) either in person or virtually. Programming volunteers are not paid for their time, but can request funding for class materials.
Expectations:
Offer a class or event that is inclusive. WQRC will promote your event, but you will need to provide information such as date, time, and content about your class or event.
Physical Requirements:
This depends on the nature of the class.
Looking to get involved in a less public-facing way? Committees are the backbone to our community building efforts, providing crucial operational and organizational support. Below are brief descriptions of our committees.
Options:
- Fundraising: Grants, donations, and budgeting
- Events: Planning and organizing events
- Volunteer: Recruitment, training, coordination, and internal communications
- Communications: Graphics, social media, and outreach
- Training: Presenting to and training other organizations
- Programming: Supporting new and existing programming
Not quite ready to commit?
Don’t worry! We are only gauging interest. You will not be plugged into a committee until attending volunteer training.
